Who doesn’t love Urban Decay palettes? I mean, they are a must have in anyone’s make up collection. After trying and absolutely loving the Naked 2 palette, I didn’t think that Urban Decay could top it as the Naked 1, 2 and 3 are iconic in their range. When they brought out this Smoky palette I was dubious to begin with, just because I’ve always struggled with doing a smoky eye that looks good! I was pleasantly surprised that this palette was not just filled with dark pigmented eyeshadows, but contains a selection of golds, pinks and matts which is perfect for me as I wanted to experiment with different make up looks.
The palette is filled with glittery and matt finished eyeshadows that are so pigmented and they all complement one another. If anyone has used Naked Palettes before then you know how blendable they are and this gorgeous selection is no exception! The colours in the palette are (from left to right)
High, Dirty Sweet, Radar, Armor, Slanted, Dagger, Black Market, Smolder, Password, Whiskey, Combust and Thirteen.
They are all in trio’s so it makes it easy to identify which colours go with what, especially if you are a newbie with make up! If you are feeling more daring then you can mix and match the different shades, but I tend to stick with the trio shades.
My favourite trio (see right) is the shimmery golds and pinks. This is perfect for an effortless day look as it is very subtle and I feel like it complements my pale skin and blonde hair. This looks great with a pink lip as its very flattering and will look stunning with a tan! You can see from the picture just how pigmented they are and how well they sit on the skin.
There are so many shades in the palette that will be suitable for both day and night make up. It is a great palette if you want to experiment with different looks, and if you are a newbie like me to the smoky eye look, you will create little mistakes!
This selection of eyeshadows contain purple pigments and contains the matt colour, password. When I’ve tried out this look I find that password makes a great base colour as it’s very subtle. I think this look is a lot more daring, but I think Urban Decay have got this just right with the different purple shades in the trio.
The next set of three are three colours that are all matt and are much softer. These would be perfect if you are unsure about smoky eyes as they are really subtle; these would suit all skin types. I often use thirteen as a base for other eyeshadows, it is a soft cream white, that makes the ideal base shade. The smokey eye result is almost like a barely there look, which is perfect if you want a natural finish.
I much prefer gold smoky looks, but this trio is just divine. It is filled with the most beautiful dark greys that all have a blue undertone. This is perfect for nights out and teamed up with heaps of mascara it is very glamourous. These three are all very pigmented and glittery, so if you want a dramatic look then this will be perfect! I don’t tend to use these three as much as the others, but they will suit all skin tones.
Although Urban Decay eyshadow palettes are quite expensive (I think this was about £38) they are a real investment as each little colour goes a long way. I’ve been using this non stop since January and I don’t even think I’ve even made a dent in them! If you want to try out smoky eyes, but don’t really know which shades work best for you, this is a great palette to experiment with.
Has anyone else got any tips for smoky eye/or used this palette?
Lots of Love,
